Counseling Philosophy
I believe the meaning of life is for all living things is to grow, struggle, thrive (ideally), and when it is time, to die.
All living things naturally engage in this process.
For humans, however, this process can become slowed or derailed by a variety of complex issues which are unique to our species including addiction, depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders. My belief is similar to that of Carl Rogers who stated: “the organism has one basic tendency and striving - to actualize, maintain, and enhance the experiencing organism” (Rogers, 1951, p. 487).
My approach to psychotherapy involves a collaborative relationship between myself and my clients. Together, we work to identify the issues which inhibit the growth and thriving of the individual.
The key components of my approach to the relationship include: working to understand clients' worldviews, providing comfort and care, engaging in honest and respectful discourse and approaching everyone with a sense of unconditional prizing. I also regularly infuse humor into my work with clients.
I believe that life is difficult. As a therapist I feel I am in a unique position to help lighten someone else's load. It is my privilege and honor to be able to do this for my fellow humans. :)
